This weekend I was quite busy doing fitness with the NE Spahten Ninjas at Ragnar Trail until Saturday, then sleeping/recovering most of Sunday. I didn’t spend my weekend in a taproom like I usually tend to (Although I did plenty of drinking, which you would have seen on my Instagram). I did notice that the new taproom at Castle Island had opened though, and luckily they’re open on Mondays and I’m on vacation this week. Let’s dig in.
After a short hiatus due to events that weren’t brewery related, we’re back! I know you’ve all been eagerly waiting!
I’ve been off on “let use up PTO before I lose it” this week, so I searched out for a brewery that was open on a Tuesday. It’s pretty damn hard to find! Luckily, a little trip down the Cape and I found myself Cape Cod Beer, because on the Cape no one has to actually work the next day. Hooray for vacation destinations, amirite?! Now, let’s dive on in!
I was starting up the laptop, fully prepared for a Game 3 of disappointment. It was already 3 – 0. I figured the game would make for background noise as I prepare my post for Tuesday. Then Acciari got the tip in. Then Backes makes the goal off Bobby Ryan’s complete fail to wrangle the puck. Then Pastrnak scores on the powerplay and here I am, finally typing during the second intermission.
Before the third starts, let me tell you about Dorchester Brewing!
Game 1 in the books, and the Bruins pulled out a win. It didn’t look pretty, especially with zero shots on goal in the 2nd, but the timely goals by Vatrano and Marchand in the 3rd gave the B’s the W. Most importantly, this kid McAvoy looks good! It’s his first game in the NHL and he played top pairing minutes without any real mistakes. Good to know losing Krug and Carlo indefinitely won’t be as big of a loss as it should be.
Hope you’re prepared for all kinds of fun Bruins commentary if they keep winning. Could be a quite a run!
Today we venture just north of Boston to Chelsea and hit up Mystic Brewing!
This weekend marks the beginning of my favorite time of the year: obstacle race season! If you happened take a peek at my bio page, you may have noticed a couple of pictures of me jumping over fire and being generally muddy. Yea, I’m one of those “stupid” folks. I’m even part of a larger organization of people who are equally as crazy called the New England Spahtens. If you happen to race yourself, make sure to say hello! We’re generally very friendly if not slightly inappropriate. I’d also hate to prove the research wrong and start being lazy since Craft Beer Drinkers Are Healthier than Non-Craft.
Today we head to Whitman, MA (Where’s that? Exactly!) for Old Colony Brewing. Continue reading “Old Colony Brewing – Whitman, MA”
Welcome to the first of your newly scheduled “Tuesday Brewsday” guide! I promise that will be the last time I ever use that phrase, and yes I feel slightly douchey for doing it.
This switch to Tuesdays came at the perfect time, since Sunday night was Wrestlemania and was obviously too preoccupied to write. Now, I don’t what wrestling much anymore, those days left with Stone Cold Steve Austin, but I’ll watch the hell out of Mania. Last night’s show was pretty decent, with the Undertaker finally hanging them up by piling his dirty laundry in the middle of the ring and the Hardy Boys coming back as surprise entrants into the 4 way tag team ladder match, but man do I miss that Attitude era. Really need to bring back the blood and sexual situations that once made it great! It’s almost too watered down and predictable now. We’ll probably never see an 80 year-old woman give birth to a rubber hand again, and that’s a damn shame.
Let’s continue our way around MA this week, with a stop into Exhibit ‘A’.
Have you all caught the new trailer for Spiderman: Homecoming yet? I’m far too excited about Peter Parker finally being a part of the Marvel Universe. It’s about time, the last 3 Spidey movies that Sony put out stunk worse than a homeless mans taint. A top to bottom makeover was absolutely in order. Marvel is setting up for another great year, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok also dropping, I’m so ready to fanboy out this summer. Also, Netflix just released Iron Fist, and apparently a lot of online critics don’t seem to like it. I’m most of the way through and while it’s not as good as Daredevil or Luke Cage, I’ve been enjoying the ride. So if your normally into the Netflix shows, give it a watch. Don’t listen to the people online and their fair obvious biases as to why they dislike it.
Now that Bobby’s Marvel minute is over, lets take a look at Barrel House Z.
Saturday Night I hit up the Colosseum in Providence to check out Arcade Revival, a pop up old school arcade game set up that was going on all weekend that also happened to feature Revival Brewing. I recommend giving them a follow, that event was a bunch of fun, there was never a long wait for a game, and the people watching was fantastic. I believe I saw Jareth the Goblin King there, it was uncanny.
And that’s the last bit of RI I had. For the next two weeks, I’m bringing it back home to Mass for 4 big features. There are now over 100 visitable breweries in the state according to Mass Brew Bros, so I’ve got a lot of work cut out for me.
So lets start super local for me, with Black Hat Brew Works.
If there is anything my opinion should be trusted on aside from brews, it should be movies. On Friday night I went and saw Logan, it was excellent. The action was great as you would expect from a Marvel movie, but the drama and the acting were fantastic. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and even that little girl who played Laura/ X-23 all knocked it out of the park. Go check it out, you’ll enjoy the hell out of it.
Also, prior to the movie there was a teaser for Deadpool 2, which is available online. Watch it. It’s damn funny.
With that I bring you a guide to Trillium, the superb brewery in Canton, MA!
Does anyone else miss football as much as me? I was out this Sunday in Cambridge at World of Beers (didn’t know it was a chain until I looked it up now) and while we had a good time playing some board games, perusing the massive list of available beers (I went with Sip of Sunshine, as recommended on Friday’s Flight Plan) and eating brunch food, I couldn’t help but look at one of their many TV’s and wish it was literally any two NFL teams playing. Instead, all the TV’s had were college basketball (not much of a basketball fan), spring training baseball *yawn* and NASCAR, which is never fun. I’d take a Browns/Jaguars week 4 match-up over that any day. They should have a Bruins game every Sunday at 1 to give me something to still glance at between bites.
Anyway, prior to World of Beers we stopped in on the taproom I’ve been to the most, Downeast Cider. I’m going to let you know why you should frequent it often as well!
