Moby Dick Brewing Co. – New Bedford, MA

Good day for the ol’ Brew Guide today, as we finally hit 1,000 followers on Instagram! As a token of my appreciation for all the love and support I’ve received, I plan on running a 1k giveaway starting next Monday! Why not just start it now, you ask? I’m going to try to curate some excellent hard to find brew, and that takes the extra mile. As a hint, there will be some recent purchases from Trillium included, which you may have seen a post about. I’ll also drop hints on my Instagram story once everything has been acquired. So if you don’t already, make sure you’re following @nebrewguide on Insta and you might get hooked up!

Now let’s head to the whaling hub of Massachusetts, with Moby Dick Brewing in New Bedford!

Night Shift Brewing – Everett, MA

August is going to be very busy, unfortunately not really in the brewery hopping sense. Some people happen to be getting married and are really putting a damper on the ol’ Brew Guide travels. But, towards the of the month, you’ll be getting a bunch of new spots as I head up north for a whole week. I know I’ll at least be hitting Tuckermans (and might actually take enough pictures to post about it this time) and be revisiting Woodstock Inn, but I need more suggestions! If it’s an hour(ish) away from Conway, NH I’ll take the drive. Post in the comments or shoot me an email (nebrewguide@gmail.com)!

Speaking of finally visiting places and taking enough pictures (barely), I spent some time at Night Shift on Saturday…let’s talk about it!

Magic Hat Brewing Co. – S. Burlington, VT

With all the excitement about the “I Drink New England” Shirts being released yesterday and my first try at beer journalism (please check it out and let me know what you think), I forgot to talk about the We’re Funk’d festival on What’s Goin’ Down!

Night Shift and Springdale put together an awesome first year event with a lot of really fantastic sour and wild beers. The German BSV Center in Walpole was a nice venue with the perfect set up for such and event. Next year should be a must attend for anyone that enjoys a bit of Sour Patch tongue. Only critique, hopefully next year they can get a few more food options and a bunch more porta-potties.

Time to put a wrap on Vermont for the time being, with a stop into an old favorite of mine, Magic Hat Brewing Co.

Foam Brewers – Burlington, VT

After having a late breakfast in Burlington last week, we spent some time exploring the waterfront. I’d like to say it was for exercise, but it was mostly because it was still 20-ish minutes before Foam Brewing was going to be open. While there we took a peek at the A_Dog Skatepark, which was hosting a kids skate camp. I bring this up because I heard a statement from a 10-13 year old kid at this park that surprised me, (I assume in reference to a new board) “I found it for cheaper online, but you got to support the local store.” Burlington is for sure a strange city, but there is definitely some things they do right up there.

Beer is definitely another one of those things and Foam Brewers is a big part of that.

Grey Sail Brewing – Westerly, RI

Yay Monday! This week we move on up the map, out of Connecticut and into Rhode Island for a couple of great places for you to visit!

As a pleasant side effect of my recent quest to try all the brews, I’ve also been able to hit up a bunch of local eateries. This weekend was no exception. After dropping my family off at TF Green so they can go enjoy the fun and warmth of Florida without me (bastards), I traveled on over to PVDonuts to sample their 90’s inspired flavored donuts. We waited in line for about 40 minutes, by far the longest I’ve waited for breakfast food. I can say in all honesty they are absolutely worth the wait. I try parts of 6 different kinds: Cereal Milk, Rice Krispy Treat, Wildberry Pop Tart, Dunkaroos, Cosmic Brownie, and a special Irish Chocolate with Bailey’s. Every damn one was delicious, and if I know anything as well as beer, it’s donuts. So, get your ass over there.

With a full stomach ready to roll, lets dive into Grey Sail!

Union Station Brewery – Providence, RI

So, did you watch the Oscars? I didn’t! I heard the movie about being in movies won a bunch. Hollywood sure loves to pat itself on the back, eh? Good thing they took that important best movie one away from them in the most awkward way possible and gave it to the movie with Cottonmouth in it! In case you’re not a Marvel dork like me, Mahershala Ali plays the villain “Cottonmouth” in Luke Cage and that’s all I knew him from. I know, I’m super cultured. Deadpool was my favorite movie last year and not a single award! Sure everyone thought La La Land and Moonlight were the bees knees, but I hear both were severely lacking in the all important “dick joke” category. But you know what they say, different strokes…

OK, enough of the amazing Oscar commentary and onto the beer!

Cambridge Brewing Co. – Cambridge, MA

Sunday was really a day that ended up being a day where original brew plans failed. Luckily both times I was able to switch on the fly and everything worked out. The morning was spent dominating the ping-pong table at Revival, and at night I got to make a first time visit to Cambridge Brewing Company. Pro tip for all of you out there, don’t forget that if you have a Monday off, there are probably a lot of others that do too. And they are going to want to go out and drink as well. Maybe try to plan your night accordingly unlike certain beer bloggers.

Anywho, let’s get to it… Continue reading “Cambridge Brewing Co. – Cambridge, MA”

Revival Brewing Co. – Cranston, RI

This weekend I got a little redemption. After a weekend were I was promised brunch foods and soundly disappointed, there was an itch to scratch. So when I found out my originally planned destination wasn’t open on Sundays, the executive decision was made to head down to Brutopia, home of Revival Brewing Co. in Cranston. Having come to Revival in the past, I knew eating at the restaurant was a must and luckily for us, they serve brunch on Sundays! You really don’t know how much you want brunch nachos until you are told there are brunch nachos. No disappointment with the food this Sunday!

But this is a beer blog, so onto why you’re really here!
