“You have 30 days to renew your domain”
Nothing like an email that you owe money to remind you that you’ve been punishing your liver in the name of hobby journalism for a whole year! Since I decided to spend January sober (I can hear all your boos already), obviously there hasn’t been much to post about. But rather than letting my already questionable writing ability get rusty, I’m going to run down the past year; giving you the facts, handing out some obviously super important superlatives and then filling you in on what to expect in the future for the Brew Guide!

Last week I attended the Craft’d Company‘s Beers With the Brewer night held at Dorchester Brewing* on Wednesday, which was a really cool event. For the price of admission, you get a full pour of a beer of your choosing (although there is a featured beer), a snack (we got soft pretzels!) and got to hear from Todd Charbonneau, DB Co’s head brewer. Todd told us all about the beginning of the brewery and how he got started; he’s one of the handful of past Harpoon brewers in the area that are now doing off their own thing. Hearing from someone who was at the forefront of the craft beer wave is always super interesting! It’s was a night full of great beer and fun talks among other avid craft beer fans. I highly recommend you check out one of their future events!
And now, I welcome you back to my popular series “How Have You Never Heard Of…?”, where we waited over an hour to bring you Bissell Brothers!

Is there a beer style that consistently disappoints you? For awhile, I always felt that way about IPA’s. Early in to my craft beer “hobby”, every time I tried one, I felt like I was licking a pine cone. Since exploring further, I have since come to terms with the IPA, there are now a ton that I love. But now, I’m onto a new style. And I’m looking at you Pils.
I’ve tried quite a few pilsners recently and none of them have been anything I’d want again. Perhaps of my early 20’s with Miller Lite are coming back to haunt me, but I haven’t found one I’d return to. For instance, last night I got a Firestone Pivo, and nothing. Most people agree that Firestone makes great beer, yet…meh. I even wrote so on my Untappd page (you should totally give me a follow)! So this is why I ask 2 things. First what style can you just not get into, and second, is there any local pilsners you could recommend to break this weak streak I’ve had with them?
Now that I’ve aired my grievances, I’ve got one last guide for Maine as we took a stop into SoMe Brewing!

Today we wrap up the Industrial Way series with not one, but two breweries in one post. The reason for this unprecedented occasion? A) Neither one is particular big, so the taproom description isn’t going to be much and B) after 2 other breweries, picture taking took a drastic turn downward. The A.D.D. of “I should probably take a….Oooo, a DDH IPA!” was real. You know how that goes!
So let’s not waste anymore time and jump right into part three of the Maine Memorial Day saga!

Another day, another Portland brewery! I hit 5 breweries on this trip, and I’m pretty sure that was still under half of them. If anyone wants to sponsor a whole weeks trip up there, please let me know. I need to do it a some point just to keep my journalistic integrity. I think I have some of that, right?
Anywho, lets walk across the street from Allagash to the first of 3 breweries @ 1 Industrial Way, Foundation Brewing Company.

Holy Hell. Memorial Day weekend is in the books and I’ve got a tank full of new spots to give you the low down on!
Did you know that Portland is essentially just one large brewery? I’m amazed anyone can stay sober in that city. Best part is, I couldn’t have gotten a Bud Light even if I tried! Can’t remember a single tap being anything but craft beer. What a great place.
